Designated Class 70 none survived long enough to be renumbered into the 70XXX number range.
 

Although not allocated numbers in line with the E series numbering sequences of the 1950s after the end of steam in the late 1960s E prefixes were applied to all the 26XXX numbers prior to renumbering to Class 76 as designated.

On renumbering into the Class 76 number range numbering took place in sequentially missing out those locomotives that had already been removed from service leaving gaps. 76001 to 76004, 76006 to 76016, 76018, 76020 to 76030, 76032 to 76034, 76036 to 76041, 76043, 76044 and 76046 to 76057.

A later series of renumbering to group together the Class 76s that were duel braked / air braked and MU working equipment fitted saw several Class 76s swap identities whilst two others were given a vacant number not used during the initial numbering into the 76XXX series.

76003 and 76036 swapped identities
76018 was renumbered to 76035, an unused number
76038 and 76050 swapped identities
76039 and 76048 swapped identities
76044 was renumbered to 76031, an unused number

The final numbering for the Class 76 was 76001 to 76004, 76006 to 76016, 76020 to 76041, 76043 and 76045 to 76057.
 

Designated as Class 77 all seven had been withdrawn from service long before renumbering into the 77XXX series could be contemplated. The entire Class was sold abroad and all bar 27005 were rebuilt for use in Holland being renumbered into the 15XX number series after overhaul and release to traffic with NS.
